Mom Picks Up Child From Daycare Snaps Photo Of “Rude”Sign On Door Going Viral
Juliana Farris Mazurkewicz was heading inside to pick her daughter up from her Hockley, Texas, daycare center when she noticed a rather blunt sign. The sign didn’t ask parents to bring in supplies or to stop their children from talking back – it asked the parents to change their behavior.
While some of the parents were offended by the facility’s sign, Juliana couldn’t have agreed more. As soon as they got home, Juliana shared a photo of the message on Facebook. She had no idea more than 1 million people would respond in just a few days.
It seems as though everyone has an opinion on whether the staff was right to hang the sign or not…
This great Internet debate began one fateful afternoon when Juliana noticed the piece of paper hanging in the daycare’s front window.
The sign read:
“You are picking up your child! GET OFF YOUR PHONE!!!!
Your child is happy to see you! Are you not happy to see your child?? We have seen children trying to hand their parents their work they completed and the parent is on the phone.
We have heard a child say, ‘Mommy, mommy, mommy…’ and the parent is paying more attention to their phone than their own child. It is appalling. Get off your phone!!”
Shocked by the staff’s rather direct message, Juliana snapped a photo of the sign and posted it to her Facebook page. Within a few hours, her notifications were buzzing with people sharing their own thoughts.
Juliana told CNN that she wasn’t upset by the sign at all. In fact, she agreed with the staff’s harsh words and noticed she had her phone clutched in her hands as she read their words.
“I was a bit shocked, but I didn’t feel any negativity towards the daycare. I know that the staff has the best interests of the children in mind, even to the point where they are willing to offend the parent.”
Even though Juliana felt as though her child’s daycare did the right thing, some parents were up in arms. One angry commenter wrote:
“This is ridiculous. Who is anyone to tell a child’s parent not to use their phone? They might be working? Or have an emergency or anything else that’s none of their business.”
While everyone certainly has their own opinions about if it was right of the daycare to post the sign in the first place, we can all agree that we should put our electronics down more often. Life is happening right before our eyes – and our time with our kids is precious. We don’t want to miss a second!
